Strategy
In January 2002 the Gazprom Management Committee identified the Yamal Peninsula as a region of the Company’s strategic interests. Commercial development of the Yamal fields will enable to build up local gas production to 250 bcmpa. Accessing Yamal is of utter importance for the purpose of ensuring gas production growth.
The Cenomanian-Aptian deposits of the Bovanenkovo field are a paramount development target on Yamal.

Significance
In order to deliver gas from the Bovanenkovo field with projected production of 115 bcmpa (140 bcmpa in the long term with account of the Neocomian-Jurassic deposits development), it is planned to construct a multi-line gas transmission system that would connect the Yamal Peninsula and central Russia.
Technical Features
The pipeline construction envisages applying 1,420 mm pipes designed for an increased working pressure versus the one at the existing gas pipelines.
The pipeline route will exceed 2,400 km including the new gas transmission corridor Bovanenkovo – Ukhta of some 1,100 km (design capacity – 140 bcmpa) and the Ukhta – Torzhok gas pipeline of 1,300 km (design capacity – 81,5 bcmpa).
History and Current Status
In October 2006 The Gazprom Management Committee ordered to launch the investment stage of the Bovanenkovo field development and trunkline transport system construction.
Since 2007 activities aimed at the construction of the Bovanenkovo – Ukhta gas trunklines system facilities have been going on in the Republic of Komi.
In August 2008 Gazprom launched the construction of the most difficult section along the Bovanenkovo – Ukhta gas trunkline system – a submerged crossing via the Baidarata Bay.
On December 3, 2008 celebrations were held dedicated to the launch of the construction and the welding of the first joint of the Bovanenkovo – Ukhta gas trunkline system.
Commissioning
The Bovanenkovo – Ukhta gas trunkline system is scheduled for commissioning in the 3rd quarter of 2011.
